The following teaching comes from His Holiness, Kundun, the Dalai Lama:
Buddhism teaches that patience comes in five forms:
1. Having patience in understanding Dharma and gaining faith.
2. Being undisturbed by anguish from suffering.
3. Practice patience before getting angry.
4. Having patience in accepting problems.
5. Being undisturbed by inflicted harm.
The emphasis of any perfection is what motivates the action. The greatest patience is humility.
'We cannot learn real patience and tolerance from a guru or a friend. They can be practiced only when we come in contact with someone who creates unpleasant experiences. According to Shantideva, enemies are really good for us as we can learn a lot from them and build our inner strength.'
