Zopa’s Yun Hoi Wing Chun Gwoon Daily Oath

(Buddhists include the first two lines, others may leave them out)
Praise to Kuan Yin, Kuan Yu, the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and the founders!
May the Dharma always shine through all my actions in my life as a gung fu practitioner!

I swear to:
Master the art of Wing Chun;
Become an exceptional gung fu practitioner;
Never let this art be abused;
Develop patience and perseverance;
Respect and practice justice;
Avoid evil, do good, control the mind;
Develop spiritual tranquillity;
Remain disciplined;
Conduct myself ethically;
Only take what is given;
Speak only the truth;
Not partake of intoxicants so as not to dull the mind;
Refrain from sexual misconduct;
Limit my desires and pursuit of bodily pleasures;
Practice courtesy and righteousness;
Serve the community;
Respect all my teachers, elders and fellow students;
Train in harmony;
Avoid dangerous people, situations and places so as to abstain from arguments and conflicts;
Preserve the proper spirit;
Be polite and gentle in manner;
Train diligently to maintain my gung fu skills;
Never to hesitate to use my art wisely when required;
Never to be angry except with righteous wrathfulness to right injustice;
Use my martial skills for the good of humanity to help the weak, the young, the old and the oppressed;
Preserve and respect the genuine heritage and tradition of the legitimate Wing Chun art as handed down by the true sifus from the Red Boats;
Never to sell this art for selfish gain;
Pass on this true art only to worthy followers;
Never discredit Gung Fu, Wing Chun, the lineage of our Wing Chun sifus or Yun Hoi Gwoon.
