A tale told in Koo Lo follows. Leung Jan was teaching Wong Sam in Koo Lo village one night. He was teaching him how to turn his horse and why the turn is performed as modern day Koo Lo Pin Sun (and Yuen Kay San) practitioners still do it to this day. Leung Jan first instructed Wong to shift on the heels and asked him to hit a fan he was holding. Because he was shifting on his heels Wong Sam only changed the direction of his facing and had less reach, hence, he was unable to reach the fan. Leung Jan then instructed Wong Sam to shift on the balls of the feet and Wong Sam easily hit the fan. Leung Jan then explained that shifting on your heels causes you to lose a significant amount of distance in your striking range. he also explained the other benefits of correct turning. So, juening on the balls of the feet was what Leung Jan employed and to this day is still preserved the way it was supposed to be by the descendants of his Koo Lo village pupils.
